Supporting four branches from anywhere: How the Lee County Library keeps every location running with Zoho Assist

The organization: Lee County Library System

The Lee County Library System serves the residents of Lee County, Georgia, and the surrounding areas through four branch locations and a team of about 20 staff members. IT across all four branches is handled by a single Senior Library Assistant and Tech Specialist who has spent 26 years with the library.

The Challenge

With one technician covering four physical locations, every on-site fix carried a hidden cost. When an issue arose at a branch the technician was not currently at, resolving it meant traveling there, and travel time was only part of the problem.

  • Time lost commuting between branches for issues that did not strictly require hands-on access
  • Schedule reshuffling to make sure every location stayed staffed while the technician was away fixing a problem at another
  • Weekend call-outs, where a staff member's computer problem could require a trip into the office on a day off

The goal was simple: be able to reach any library-owned computer without needing to stand in front of it physically.

The solution: Zoho Assist

The library evaluated a handful of options, including Windows Remote Desktop and another third-party tool, before settling on Zoho Assist. The deciding factors were refreshingly straightforward: the pricing was right, and it worked.

The onboarding process proved easy. The Unattended agent file was downloaded and installed on each computer, and the Zoho Assist web console was used to group machines by branch, giving a clean, organized view of every device across all four locations from a single screen.

After roughly ten years of use, Zoho Assist continues to meet the library's day-to-day needs. Routine tasks like gathering usage statistics, updating individual devices, and running backups account for a couple of logins a month. The tool proves most valuable, though, when something goes wrong and immediate remote access keeps a minor problem from becoming a larger one.

“It has saved me from commuting to work on many weekends. When I get a call from staff asking for computer help, I use Zoho Assist to remote into the computer while still at home.”
