Categories

Every e-commerce store has a variety of items to offer. In Zoho Commerce, you can group similar items into a single category and display them on your online store.

Scenario: Patricia owns a fashion store where she sells shoes, hats, watches, men’s and women’s apparel. The store deals with multiple brands for each item, e.g., shoes are sold in 6 different brands. All these brands can be grouped and displayed under one category- Shoes. Similarly, there can be multiple categories grouping similar items that will be displayed on your store’s menu.

Add Category

Here’s how you can add a new category to your online store:

  • Go to Categories under Inventory.
  • Enter the Name, URL, and other necessary details.
  • Click Save.

Click Add New Category if you are creating categories for the first time. You can also click + New present in the top right corner of the page.

Fields Description
Name Enter a name for the category.
URL The url will be auto-populated based on the category name you enter. You can also edit the URL by typing it out in the URL field. This URL can be shared by your customers or visitors while accessing the store.
Parent Category Choosing a parent category will make the category that you’re creating, a sub category. You can leave this field empty if you do not want it to be a sub category.
Description Enter a description for the category to be displayed on your store.
SEO Title Enter a SEO title for this category. The title will be displayed on the webpage results.
SEO Keywords Enter relevant keywords that’ll help your category rank better in the search results.
SEO Description The SEO description will be displayed under the SEO title in the search results.
Show in Store Mark this option if you want this category to be displayed only in your store.
Show in Menu Mark this option if you want this category to be displayed in the menu of your store.
Image Upload images related to the item category.
Alt Text Enter a short text describing the image. This will be displayed in case the image fails to load.

Arrange Category

Once you have a list of categories, you can arrange them in your required order. This order of categories will be reflected on the website.

Here’s how you can change the order of your categories:

  • Go to Categories under Inventory.
  • Click Change Order in the top right corner of the page.
  • Drag and drop the categories to reorder them. Once done, click Go to list.

Edit Category

You can make changes to the existing categories in Zoho Commerce. Here’s how:

  • Go to Categories under Inventory.
  • Hover over a category and click Edit.
  • Make the necessary changes and click Save.

Update Parent Category

A parent category can be considered as a folder containing sub-categories. You can update the parent category anytime. Here’s how:

  • Go to Categories under Inventory.
  • Hover over a category and select Update Parent Category.
  • Select the desired parent category and click Save.

Delete Category

You can delete a category if you no longer choose to use it. Here’s how:

  • Go to Categories under Inventory.
  • Hover over a category and click Delete.

Notes:

  • You will not be able to delete a category if items have been associated with it.
  • You can delete a parent category only after deleting all the sub-categories associated with it.
