Add Item Variant
Item variants are one or more variations of the same base item. You can add item variants by assigning attributes. Attributes describe the different characteristics of a item. Adding attributes help you create multiple variants of the same item.
Scenario: Patricia runs a fashion store where she sells shirts, shoes, hats, and so much more. She sells shirts in different colours and shoes in different sizes. In Zoho Commerce, instead of adding every item individually, she can create variants of the same item by selecting Variants under Item Types. She can then enter the attributes (size) and options (XS, S, M, L, XL) to start selling these item variants on her online store.
Here’s how you can create multiple variants of an item:
- Go to items under Items and click + New Item.
- Enter the general details and select Contains Variants under Item Type.
- Enter Attributes and Options.
- The variants added will be listed below. Enter SKU, Quantity, and Selling Price for all variants. You can use Generate SKU to avoid entering SKU manually for every variant and Copy To All to avoid entering Quantity and Selling Price manually for each variant.
- Enter the remaining fields and click Save. All variants will be saved and published to your online store if you had selected Yes under Show in Store. If not, you can publish it anytime by clicking Show in Store from your item details page. You can also add more variants of the same item by clicking More in the top bar of the item details page and selecting + Add Variant.

- Go to Items under Items and select the item you wish to edit.
- Click Edit on the top bar to make the required changes. Once the changes are made, click Save.
- Click Publish on the left sidebar for these changes to reflect in your online store.

If you’re selling similar items, you can save your time and effort by cloning the item. Here’s how:
- Go to Items under Items and select the item you wish to clone.
- Click More on the top bar and select Clone. You will see the item creation page where all the fields will be auto-filled as per the item you chose to clone. Make the necessary changes and click Save.
- This item will be saved and published to your online store if you had selected Yes under Show in Store. If not, you can publish it anytime by clicking Show in Store from your item details page.

If you mark an item as inactive, actions performed on it will not be reflected in your online store. Marking an item as active or inactive is a store level preference. Here’s how you can mark an item as inactive:
- Go to Items under Items and select the item you wish to mark inactive.
- Click Bulk Actions and select Mark as Inactive.
The item will continue to remain inactive until you change it.
Delete Item

Here’s how you can delete an item in Zoho Commerce:
- Go to Items under Items and select the item you wish to delete.
- Click More on the top bar and select Delete.
If you do not wish to delete every order related to an item, you can mark the item as inactive.
Composite Items
A Composite item in Zoho Commerce is a single commodity that is made up of two or more items and/or services. Whether you’re physically assembling an item or selling curated item sets, Zoho Inventory has you covered with two distinct types:
Assemblies
Assemblies is used when you physically assemble a single item from individual components. This is ideal for manufacturers and businesses that produce finished goods. You’ll now find a dedicated Assemblies module under the Inventory tab, offering better control.
Scenario: Brandon runs a furniture business that manufactures tables. He purchases the components (items) such as legs, screws, and a tabletop and assembles them to make the final product. To track this process, he uses the assemblies feature in Zoho Commerce where he assembles the component together resulting in the reduction of the component’s stock levels and a new finished good (assembly) is created with it’s own stock. He then uses the Assemblies module to keep track of the assemblies created and manages them all in one place.
Kit Items
Kit Items are for grouping existing items for sale without any physical assembly. Great for promotional bundles, gift sets, or item combos where each component remains independent but is sold as a single unit. You can also set custom pricing for kits, making it easier to create compelling offers for your customers.
Scenario: Patrcia has a cosmetic store where during the holidays season she offers a gift box at a discounted price that includes moisturiser, lipstick, and perfume. Hence, she uses Zoho Commerce to create kits in composite items that saves time. She does not have to worry about creating a new combo item in Zoho Commerce with its own dedicated stock, instead, the stock of the associated components will be tracked individually and not as a new item
