# Custom Modules Preferences

In this help document, you’ll learn the preferences you can configure for the Custom Modules in Zoho Payroll.

Here’s how you can set preferences for the custom modules you’ve created:

*   Go to **Settings** in the top right corner of the page.
*   Select the required custom module under _Custom Modules_.

## Approvals

If your organisation requires records of custom modules to be approved before further action, you can enable Approvals for Custom Modules. You can configure Simple Approval, Multi-Level Approval, or Custom Approval.

## Custom Modules in Employee Portal

If you want your employees to view and perform actions on the records of a custom module, you can enable the custom module for the employee portal. You can configure who can access the module and choose whether they can view all records or only records that meet specific criteria. ## Validation Rules

If you want to set restrictions on creating or updating the records of the custom modules, you can use Validation Rules.

## Custom Buttons

Custom Buttons allows you to perform specific actions to custom modules when the button is clicked. You can create them using a Deluge script and execute actions based on the functions you add.

## Related Lists

Related Lists allows you to fetch and view data from within the app as well as from other third-party services. This comes in handy when you want to cross-reference data from different entities.
