Managing internal training is one thing; delivering learning for thousands of users across the globe is an entirely different challenge. The struggle isn’t just to create inclusive content, it’s to deliver training securely, build personalized learning experiences, and do it all without unnecessary overhead costs.

Space Kidz India, a global aerospace research organization, faced this exact scaling problem. To solve this, they turned to Zoho Learn’s custom portals. In this post, we’ll explore how they built an entire learning ecosystem with Zoho Learn and uncover the best practices you can steal for your own external training programs.

About Space Kidz India

Space Kidz India is a space research organization that aims to educate and empower young children in the aerospace world. With an aim to make space education accessible to every last child on the planet, Space Kidz India has launched several successful educational programs and satellite missions. One of their key programs, Mission ShaktiSAT, aims to teach young girls globally. They’ve adopted custom portals in Zoho Learn to reach 12,000 girls across 108 countries.

What are custom portals?

Custom portals are dedicated learning environments that help you share learning resources with your external users. It’s your gateway to the external world where you can share information, deliver training, and reach users beyond your organization.

When you want to manage all of your organization’s learning in one place, Zoho Learn’s custom portals is your answer. Create branded portals to share project plans with investors, deliver customer training, and track partners’ progress easily.

How are custom portals useful for educational institutions?

Centralized control

One of the biggest advantages of our learning platform is the easy balance between central control and individual privileges. You can create learning materials, configure policies, and onboard users from a single place. You can also assign different user roles to specific individuals and delegate tasks seamlessly.

Personalized learning

Create unique custom portals for each grade, institution, or skill level and customize their learning experience entirely. You can share specific manuals to particular portals or build learning paths for each level and tailor the learning objectives of each unique portal. You can also white-label the learning platform with Zoho Learn’s custom portals.

Consolidated reporting

With a multi-tenant learning platform, you can access the entire organization’s learning progress in one view. You can also drill down and see how every grade or student group is engaging with the learning content. View learning insights for all cohorts and improve your learning content accordingly.

Cost efficient

Not only do you save time and resources in content creation, but you can also reduce your training overhead drastically. Instead of multiple learning platforms with additional setup and add-on costs, a single, unified multi-tenant learning platform helps you roll your learning out at a much lower price.

Custom portal best practices from Space Kidz India

Mission ShaktiSAT by Space Kidz India aims to foster curiosity and interest in space science for young girls. With an aim to empower the next generation of girls in STEM, Space Kidz India chose our learning platform and has successfully rolled out their training to 12,000 girls in 108 countries. Here’s how they used custom portals to accelerate their mission.

Created unique portals for different countries

To reach young students in 108 countries, Space Kidz India created a unique custom portal for each country. This helped them customize the learning environment and assess how the courses are perceived in each country.

Invited multiple users at once

Inviting 12,000 students manually would have been a nightmare, so the team collected the students’ login credentials, i.e, email addresses in a CSV file and imported it onto the platform. This made the students’ onboarding as fast and smooth as possible.

Organized diverse training content

The Mission ShaktiSAT team not only wanted to educate the students but also ensure that the learning reaches the students. They’ve organized the learning materials into PDFs, videos, and instructions in a text lesson, and then a quiz to evaluate the learners. Learners are now educated, engaged, and evaluated within a single platform.

Assigned different user roles

Many small and distant countries have ambassadors who act as a bridge between the students and the ShaktiSAT team. These ambassadors needed access to the necessary student data, which was made possible with role-based access control in Zoho Learn.

Tracked learner progress

Both the ambassadors and the ShaktiSAT team accessed the training analytics of the portal learners of a particular country to understand how each learner and module were performing. Zoho Learn's in-depth analytics also provided mission-wide learning insights to the team.

Customized the learning experience

Because the learners are from different countries, the mission ShaktiSAT team not only branded the entire portal with their logos, themes, and custom domain, but also configured the UI language to the learners’ native language and created a familiar learning environment through Zoho Learn’s custom portals.

Wrapping up

In the words of Dr. Srimathy Kesan, the Founder/CEO of Space Kidz India, “The best learning platform for education is Zoho Learn”. The Mission ShaktiSAT team needed a simple learning platform that’s easy for learners to access and a secure software that can handle multiple learners across different countries. Zoho Learn, and specifically our custom portals, ended up being the perfect fit for them. Share learning resources with multiple audiences using Zoho Learn’s custom portals and customize the learning experience to fit your organization’s needs.
